Staggered enrollment days are super learning opportunities for everyone. Teachers get to know their students in a small group setting, kids get to know their new routine in detail, and parents get to practice leaving their little ones! Here is what our preschool day looks like right now, at the beginning of the year.
First we sign in.
Then we wash our hands.
We greet our friends...
And we get to work at tables on a fine-motor skill building task and practice
our oral language skills (talk with our friends!)
When we hear the "Good Morning" song, we know to clean up and head
to the carpet for morning circle time.
We say the pledge and start our time together with prayer.
This week we are playing a fun get-to-know-you game.
We roll the dice and answer a question about ourselves. It is so neat to see the children notice how they are alike in many ways.
We are also learning that our names are special, just like we are.
We looked at our "Sunshine Friends" chart and circled our names.
After all that hard work, it is time for literacy centers.
This week we rotated through 2 centers.
We made faces to look like ourselves, and remembered how to use glue and scissors safely.
We also worked to stamp all the letters of our names with bingo dotters.
Finally, time for centers!
And then a delicious snack form this precious snack helper!
After snack, we got to go out and enjoy the new sand!
Last, but not least, time for math!
Continuing with our name theme, we measured out names!
to show how many letters we each have.
We discovered that some friends have long names and some have short names.
Many children were able to find someone hat had the SAME or equal number of letters as they do.
I love to see them drawing these conclusions all on their own.
Shew, I am tired just writing about that big, busy day at preschool! We had two wonderful days together and are looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday! So, just in case they told you that we "didn't do anything", maybe this will help :)
