Open for Business!

Shew!  After a week at Disney and a week in sick bay, I was ready to see my school babies!  We made Monday count for sure when we built our own grocery store!

First we spent some time rearranging the furniture.  Then we made a plan for where we would store the groceries.  We talked together about the difference between a fruit and a vegetable and tried our hand a sorting our produce.

Next it was time for uniforms!

And name tags!  Every worker needs a name tag, just like every teacher needs to find fun, purposeful ways to get their writers to write!

Finally it was time to shop!

To add a little structure and perhaps a little extra literacy to our play, we provided the children with shopping lists.  They spent time searching the shelves for the items listed.

We ran into a little snag when the milk got missing.

No worries, we are can do kids who solve our own problems.  R got right to work turning this cylinder from the block center into gallons of milk!  He chose the colors, sounds, and letters he wanted to use.

After a hard days work, it was time to close up.
Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow!
