A Peek into the Rainbow Room!

Our 3s enjoyed getting to know each other and their new classroom in small groups this week.
Here is a peek into their day!

First, we make our mark to show that we are here!

Then it is time for free-exploration in our classroom while our friends arrive.

Circle time begins with pledges and  prayer time.

During circle time this week we shared our "All About Me" bags!

Time for centers!  These boys are getting to know Finn, our fish!

Next, we eat our snack...

And it is out to play!

We end our day with an interactive circle time and closing meeting.

From the smiles I saw, they boys and girls had a wonderful first week of preschool!

The First Days of Preschool (A peek into our day)

Staggered enrollment days are super learning opportunities for everyone.  Teachers get to know their students in a small group setting, kids get to know their new routine in detail, and parents get to practice leaving their little ones!  Here is what our preschool day looks like right now, at the beginning of the year.

First we sign in.

Then we wash our hands.

We greet our friends...

And we get to work at tables on a fine-motor skill building task and practice
our oral language skills (talk with our friends!)

When we hear the "Good Morning" song, we know to clean up and head
to the carpet for morning circle time.

We say the pledge and start our time together with prayer.

This week we are playing a fun get-to-know-you game.
We roll the dice and answer a question about ourselves.  It is so neat to see the children notice how they are alike in many ways.

We are also learning that our names are special, just like we are.
We looked at our "Sunshine Friends" chart and circled our names.

After all that hard work, it is time for literacy centers.
This week we rotated through 2 centers.

We made faces to look like ourselves, and remembered how to use glue and scissors safely.

We also worked to stamp all the letters of our names with bingo dotters.

Finally, time for centers!

And then a delicious snack form this precious snack  helper!

After snack, we got to go out and enjoy the new sand!

Last, but not least, time for math!
Continuing with our name theme, we measured out names!

We counted the letters in each of our names, then build a Lego tower
to show how many letters we each have.

We discovered that some friends have long names and some have short names.
Many children were able to find someone hat had the SAME or equal number of letters as they do.
I love to see them drawing these conclusions all on their own.

Shew,  I am tired just writing about that big, busy day at preschool!  We had two wonderful days together and are looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday!  So, just in case they told you that we "didn't do anything", maybe this will help :)

3s Open House

Our threes are excited about a new year in a new classroom!
Here are some pictures from their Open House!

We found a book to read in the library center.

We painted our new "Rainbow" bags.

We found our notebooks!

We made get-to-know-you School House Glyphs.

We built tall towers with the blocks.

We met Finn, our class pet.

Best of all, we got to bring our families to school with us!

Open House 2013-2014 4s

Open house is always an exciting day at preschool!  We meet new friends, reacquaint with old ones, and get to know our classroom and teachers.  Helping children become familiar with our classrooms and get comfortable  in their new setting is an integral part of what we do as early childhood educators.  With families by their side, our students explore the whole classroom and have ample time to work through any uncertainties they may have, and hopefully avoid any unnecessary anxiety about the unknown.

Each child completes a scavenger hunt that is designed to be a fun, family learning experience. Here are some pictures from our 2013-2014 preschool open house!

Family time is the best time!

We made get-to-know-you Gumball Glyphs.

We were chefs and followed a "Recipe for Success", to make a tasty snack.

We found our cubbies, the bathroom and the  water fountain.

We painted our new school bags.

\\
We had our pictures made!

And introduced ourselves to new friends.

We also explored the playground.
We have butterflies hatching in our butterfly garden!
