Ocean Explorers!

Today our 4s embarked on an Ecological Marine Adventure, down at Topsail Beach.  This is my favorite field trip of the year, and one that our 4s have come to look forward to.
Our first stop was the fossil garden.

We found lots of shark teeth!

Next we visited the aquarium.

Miss Kathleen showed us some very cool sea creatures.

Everyone was SO brave!  Just look at K holding a Sea Spider!

We even got the daddies involved!

Next we explored a seaweed surprise.  Partners dissected a tray of seaweed,
We found blood worms, shrimp, crabs, and even some fish.  Then we looked at each specimen under the television microscope.

Off to the beach...

We used the scoop nets to collect sea creatures.

The pier seemed like a good place to start.

The water was cool, but they didn't seem to notice.

We caught some very cool crabs that each child got to hold...

and release.

It was great day together!  I sure am not ready to say good-bye this sweet group...
