Wise Little Owls

We are having TOO much fun with our 2s this year!  Each week we learn a new nursery rhyme and participate in activities that are centered around the rhyme.

Last week we learned Wise Old Owl.  We read a story about a silly owl that wanted to be a chicken. Then we played a good listening game.  Each child chose a feather and became an owl.  Those little owls flew all over our classroom.
We played music and we moved with the music.
When the music stopped, each owl had to find a nest.

The boys and girls did such a great job working together and sharing their nests.

They are doing such a wonderful job, and building great relationships.

Our arts lessons in the first days of 2YO preschool are often skill  based.  We provide activities that allow the children to create, but also practice a skill that they will use in the future when they are creating independently

The only way that you can learn how to use glue, well, is to use glue.  We offered them bowls of glue and paint brushes.  We gave them a pile of "feathers" and an owl body.  The children discovered how glue behaves when you apply it to paper, your hands, and the troubles it causes when you get it on your work space and in your hair! We could have given them the glue and a bunch of rules, instead we let them work it out on their own.  We make messes, but we learn a lot!
