CPR Classes at SDS

Sweetwater, Fla., cop Amauris Bastidas, left, was passing by and stopped to aid baby Sebastian de la Cruz, who had stopped breathing. The infant’s aunt Pamela Rauseo, center, performs CPR; Lucila Godoy, right, is another Good Samaritan who pulled over to help.
This is the image that I simply can not get out of my head.  As a mother, aunt, teacher, I hope and pray that I could be so brave and effective in a similar situation.

Here is their story...
Some 7 years ago Pamela Rauseo's 5 month old son stopped breathing and turned blue.  This resulted in a week long stay for observation in the hospital.  While there, she was taught infant CPR, just in case her baby ever stopped breathing again.

Fast forward to this scene on the side of a busy Miami highway  7 years later.
Pamela Rauseo was driving her nephew when they got in a traffic jam.  She noticed that the 5 month old baby in the back seat was blue and not breathing.  She exited her vehicle on the side of the road and immediately employed the life saving skills she had learned in that hospital so long ago.

This story has a happy and amazing ending.  It also has me thinking that it is time for a refresher course in CPR.  Since my last certification, the procedure has changed and from what I understand become more simplified for the lay person.

As a mother, I am thinking that I would love for anyone that is caring for my child to have the same skills that this courageous aunt did.

So... We will be holding 2 CPR classes at Sunshine Day School for our parents, family and friends.
We have 2 classes planned, one in the morning and one in the evening. The class is 2.5 hours long and costs 20.00 for the class only and 5.50 more if you would like a certification card.  We are so pleased to welcome Mrs. Diane Gideons to SDS as our instructor!  Class size is limited to 8 people.  You will receive a reservation form in your child's notebook this week.  Just fill it out and return it with fee if you or a family member would like to attend.

Thursday, April 3rd : 4-6:30pm
Tuesday, April 8th: 9-11:30am
